Can you work with inventory based businesses?
We frequently work with inventory-based businesses. Whether you import containers from overseas, you use co-manufacturing partners to produce finished goods, or you manufacture in-house with raw materials and work-in-progress inventory, we've got you covered. We have an entire team at Analyst House dedicated to consumer packaged goods and inventory based businesses. We have experience with standard costs, average costs, FIFO and LIFO, landed costs, and all varieties of inventory accounting.
What kind of technology companies do you work with?
We work with SaaS and AI companies, deep-tech and AI infrastructure companies, and a growing base of hardware-plus-software businesses.
What is your experience working with venture-backed startups?
Analyst House was born out of our founders' experience working at a food manufacturing and technology company where he built the financial model for the $150M Series C in 2022. Many of our teammates have worked at VC backed startups. Our client base is dominated by venture-backed and private equity-backed businesses, typically having raised between 7 and 8-figures. From pre-seed through Series A, we confidently manage the entire accounting and finance department. Our team is happy to jump on calls with investors to cover financial due diligence and to populate data rooms with financial data that we maintain. We've built models for successful nine-figure acquisitions, and helped our clients close acquisitions of their own. This is our sweet spot!
Who we work with (clients & industries)
Do you handle invoicing and collections?
We pride ourselves on our ability to manage the entire accounting and finance function for our clients. This includes managing invoicing and collections. Whether you run founder-led sales, or you have a full sales organization, we integrate with sales teams to ingest new contracts or purchase orders, fill out new customer onboarding forms, and follow their unique invoicing procedures. We manage the entire process, from contract signed until cash hits your bank account, keeping you informed of progress and accounts receivable aging along the way. For many clients we send a weekly AR aging update, which allows the internal team to escalate invoices that are overdue.
Are you a CPA firm?
We are not a CPA firm, although many of our teammates hold the CPA designation. We do not perform audits or submit tax returns. We do have a network of trusted partner firms who we call upon if you are not already pleased with your current CPA firm.
Do you prepare taxes?
We do not prepare tax returns, but we are typically our client's primary point of contact in communicating needs and desires to their tax firms. We can help with compliance documents like 1099s and W2s/W3s but we will not prepare your LLC, S-corp, partnership, or C Corporation tax returns. We rely on a network of tax preparation partners, and act as the liaison between your business and your tax firm.
Can you help with sales tax compliance?
We do not internally handle sales tax compliance, although through a partnership with Taxwire, we will act as your sole point of contact for all things sales tax compliance and utilize the expertise and resources of Taxwire to ensure your compliance.
What accounting and finance services do you cover?
We offer three integrated service lines.
Controller Services handles your day-to-day finance and accounting. GAAP bookkeeping, financial reporting, accounts payable and receivable, A/R collections, payroll, compliance (1099s, W2s), and sales/corporate tax liaison.
CFO Services turns insights into strategy. Financial modeling, annual operating plans, long range planning, budget vs actual reporting, investor & lender reporting, fundraising preparation, ESOP and cap table advisory, compensation planning, pricing strategy, inventory planning, data analysis, and dashboarding.
Accounting Transformation modernizes your finance stack. System implementations, system integrations, historical accounting cleanup, workflow automation (AI), and custom software development. Which services are active depends on your plan: Build focuses on core bookkeeping, payroll, AP/AR, and reporting; Partner adds embedded CFO-level guidance and workflow automation; Scale brings a dedicated team with custom integrations and board-level support.
What we do (services & scope)
What happens when I want to hire a full time finance hire?
If we do our job well, you will grow to a point when you'll want a full-time CFO or controller. Usually this becomes a full-time job when negotiating with customers, vendors and investors takes 40 hours per week. In many of our client engagements we actually report into the CFO, not the CEO. Things like bookkeeping, bill pay, payroll, etc. are not a great use of a CFO's time. Our goal is to continue working together as you bring on full-time finance and accounting talent, and to fill the gaps in your accounting and finance department as your organization grows. We see a path to working together in some way from inception through IPO.
How will my team at Analyst House be structured?
Every engagement has an accounting manager (or director) working as your client lead. You can go to this person with any questions or concerns, as they will have full visibility to all of the workstreams happening for your business. Every engagement also has a team of analysts. Depending on the scope, these analysts handle anything from financial operations (like AP and AR), to bookkeeping and month-end close, to controller-level duties like audit support and financial reporting. Every deliverable has multiple layers of review, and a team of people working to get the work right.
How can you help me manage my board of directors?
Many of our larger clients have raised institutional venture capital. In these cases, they typically have a board of directors which has certain expectations around financial reporting, and board meetings either monthly or quarterly. Many of our clients' boards know the Analyst House team by name, as we integrate directly with the board and sometimes join board meetings to present financial information. We build around whatever expectations your board has, whether that is one quarterly PowerPoint deck, or a monthly PDF with financials, operational metrics, and commentary. We are happy to work directly with your board. Clients often find that it relieves much of the stress of board meetings to know that the financial aspect is handled externally.
What tools do you commonly work with?
Most of our clients use some combination of tools: Quickbooks, NetSuite, Ramp, Brex, BILL, Gusto, Rippling, ADP, Stripe, Shopify, Amazon, and SPS Commerce. We work with some other tools, also!
